![]() Observations here, my opinions, some advice too. I just put a set of XLs on my 2015 Ecodiesel. Sorry about the long post, but it was a long job! I kept thinking that for a company with the word “Research” in its name, there were too many details about the truck that were overlooked. There are other steps that should also re reorganized. I would drill and paint those holes first, so the paint will be dry when you come to install the grommets. For example, you'll need to drill 4 holes for the LED wires, those holes should be painted to prevent rust. They're not complete and they should reconsider the order of operations. If I were in charge at AMP, I would order a complete re-do on the instructions. Last thing was to get rust paint on the freshly exposed sheet metal. After sweating through that process, I got both sides working flawlessly. I go to work trimming off small amounts of sheet metal that I recently paid a boatload of money to buy. There is no vertical adjustment, so the only solution is to get out the angle grinder and die grinder. It’s catching on the bottom edge of the sheet metal seam. I open the driver’s door and the board moves about 1/4 “, then gets stuck. So now I’ve overcome those obstacles, and I'm ready to pop in the fuse and see the magic. ![]() The harness is great, but you're on your own to figure out how to anchor the LED wires under the cab, as there isn't anything you can piggyback it to. Not a horrible job, but a pain none the less. Unfortunately, for my truck anyhow, those 4 wires connect under the dash to plugs buried behind a component that has to be removed for access. I had also seen an installation video showing the connections being made under the fuse box. I didn't opt for the OBD2 connector, as I thought connecting 4 wires wouldn't be that difficult. I had to fab a metal bracket to reposition the connector. Also, my truck has a large electrical connector that was in the way of the driver’s side motor unit. They want you to reposition the park brake cable, but you can't because of the in-floor storage bins. First off, the instructions list tools required… but somehow fail to mention both a regular drill and a right angle drill. However, the installation is not for the faint of heart. I would say that the quality of the hardware, motors, harness etc is excellent. The final observation first: These things are great, they are pretty much invisible under the cab when retracted, and slide into place smoothly & quietly when a door is opened. I just finished installing a pair of AMP power steps on my crew cab. Time to try and make a small contribution… Bestop power steps? - Chevy Truck Forum | GMC Truck Forum - GmFullsize.I continue to appreciate the great info provided by so many owners, and enjoy the discussions. Bestop power steps? - Chevy Truck Forum | GMC Truck Forum - Īmp research vs. they consistently and quitely open and close quickly with the door.Īlso, AMP has EXCELLENT customer service for install and tech support, as well as spare parts, though I have not needed to buy any parts from them!!ĪFAIK, Bestop was the distributpr for AMP and then STOLE their idea stole AMPsteps ideas and made them cheaper by using cheaper components. I have not installed it yet because I need to fabricate a custom bracket to work on my aftermarket bumper and with my doubkle door campoershell, but BOTH the electric AMPstep and the manual are BEAUTIFULLY designed and manufactured and finished.įYI-Unlike the last poster, my electric steps do NOT "slam up" at all. I ALSO have an AMPstep that I got for free when I bought the electyric steps as part of a promotion at the time. They have performed flawlessly with only the annual squirt of silicone lube on the hinge points. I have had the electric AMPsteps on my truck for 5 years now.
